Pepe Potato (Remixed 2020).

I recorded this song in London in early 2008 I believe or maybe late 2007, with a man I met only once, named Pete Tervet. The song was written when I was trying to make a go of it as a blues singer in Europe. At that time, in my South London town, I was watching young men all around me facing bleak horizons: little future & radically difficult life decisions. It was basically either 50 years grinding away for minimum wage slavery (5 pounds an hour) or risk jail or early death or perhaps fluke some wealth and glamour through a life of crime. Fortunately, I’ve never had to face such decisions. I was born middle-class and educated. Nevertheless, the reality of the bleakness all around me took a massive toll on me mentally & to cut it short, I left. This song, however, is about someone who couldn’t leave.
